If you'd like for some easy cycling with great views and places to eat, The level Tarka Trail follows the route of the old railway running along the river Taw estuary from Braunton, past Barnstaple to Bideford then heads inland along the river Torridge to Torrington and on towards Meeth. You can hire bikes at various points – Chivenor, Barnstaple, Fremington Quay & Bideford – giving you easy, traffic free cycling for short distances or as much as 30 miles (60 miles return!) with plenty of opportunities to stop for a picnic, and lovely cafes, pubs and restaurants to enjoy along the way.
