SUBLIME SECLUSION
Set in its own landscaped area overlooking the stream meadow and tucked under the wood, the Linhay offers you a place of calm and quiet, of magical seclusion. The space is yours and yours alone during your stay, no neighbours, no traffic sound just the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful valley. We call it divine isolation.
The open plan living area has a comfortable sofa which converts into a good-sized double bed, dining table & four chairs and a very well-equipped galley kitchen with 4 burner gas hob. As the Linhay is off grid, there is no electric power or sockets so chilled food is stored in a large cool box - big enough for an upright bottle of wine or mineral water which was our benchmark! The brilliant Chilli Penguin wood burner will not only keep you toasty warm all year round but also has a wood-fired oven and hot plate on top to help keep you nourished from within too!
Climb the wooden ladder to the mezzanine platform and you'll find a king size bed - ideal for couples but large enough for two singles to share in comfort as well. Gaze up through the Velux windows and enjoy the stars twinkling amongst the branches above you or the sun shining through the gable end window in the morning. When friends or family are sharing we can provide two single quilts rather than the king size or double quilt - for when you're close but just not THAT close!! Just let us know once you've booked and we'll sort it for you.
Choose your sleeping area - if you would prefer to sleep downstairs on the sofa bed (it is very comfortable according to all our guests who've slept on it), rather than on the mezzanine then do let us know. We'll make sure it's made up for you instead. In the evening there's the glow of the wood burner to lull you to sleep and you'll wake up to the views of the stream meadow and feel truly immersed in nature.
Off grid with mod cons
The en suite shower room has a good-sized shower with plenty of hot water as well as a basin and a flushing loo giving you modern comfort in a traditional off-grid setting.
Lighting in the Linhay is powered by Solar PV and a battery storage system and there are also several re-chargeable lanterns which can be charged via usb & also two re-chargeable head torches for you to borrow. You can recharge the torches and mobile devices in the open garage by your car parking space where there is also a fridge freezer. Please feel free to use this for re-freezing ice blocks for the cool box and storing your food and drink - the fridge freezer is for your exclusive use and is not shared.
Wonderful outside space
Cook and eat in the freshest Devon country air! Rustic dining furniture, comfy Adirondack chairs, a charcoal barbeque, firepit, benches and relaxing hammocks to while away a few hours. This is your own private space where you can experience total privacy and you are welcome to explore the stream meadow, woods and fields at Butterhills too.
Accommodation
The Linhay sleeps 2 formally in the king-size bed on the mezzanine (or downstairs if you prefer), there is space for 2 additional people on the futon sofabed in the living area. Please state how many extra guests if any when booking. Children over 5 are welcome with supervision from their parents. We're sorry but the Linhay is not suitable for children under 5.
Dog friendly
Guests are welcome to bring up to 2 dogs 🐾 which must be kept under control at all times (they don't have to be on leads) as there are no fenced areas and due to the presence of livestock & wildlife.
Access
Less than 2 minutes' walk from your car along the level cart track brings you to the Linhay. We'll meet you and show you the way and there will be a wheelbarrow for you to transport your gear to and fro during your stay.
