And so it begins...

Our builders arrived between Christmas and New Year and have made fantastic progress with the roof. We've opted for a warm roof with larch sarkin boards visible from the inside, loads of insulation and reclaimed slates topping it off. Our trusty little grey Fergie tractor has transported all the materials along the cart track to the Linhay, we even had to meet the delivery lorry on top of Halsinger Down one foggy morning to off-load the insulation and timber as our lane is just too narrow and winding for the lorry to cope with.

Storms Dylan & Eleanor came and went but despite their huffing and puffing the build continued as our lovely Linhay is in quite a sheltered spot. I was struck by what a great position it is one morning after a very hard frost; walking down to the Linhay with the dogs and hoping to take some proper wintry photos I found the sun was streaming in and all the frost had gone! It's going to be a lovely off grid holiday home to wake up in whatever the season but I think the winter mornings will be particularly special with the sun low over the Down and the woodburner keeping things snug and cosy. The perfect retreat from a busy, hectic world and a great place to recharge your batteries.
